What is EncroChat?
EncroChat was a service that allowed anybody to purchase an encrypted handset that provided much greater security and privacy for users than standard mobile phones.
They were originally conceived to be used by certain individuals who valued their privacy and were thought to be secure and impenetrable.
The Police have been associating these encrypted devices with serious offences such as murder, money laundering, fraud and drug-related offences.
